One commercial can't do every job

Most businesses think of a commercial as one thing: a 30-second spot. Then the media plan shows up. Broadcast TV wants a :30 and a :15. Streaming and connected TV want clean, broadcast-style files. YouTube wants a hook in the first few seconds because people can skip. Meta and TikTok want vertical, captioned, and fast. Your website wants something longer that tells the full story.

If the shoot was planned around a single horizontal :30, you're stuck. Vertical crops cut off faces and products. The :15 is just the :30 with the middle hacked out, and it doesn't make sense. The social version has no hook because the spot was written to build slowly. You either pay for a second shoot or run weak versions and wonder why the campaign underperforms.

There's a second problem too. A lot of commercials are made to impress the business owner, not to move the viewer. Big music, beauty shots, a logo at the end. Nice to look at. But nobody watching knows what you want them to do, or why they should pick you over the next option.

We build the commercial around the media plan

We start with where the spots will run and how much time each placement gives you. That tells us the lengths, aspect ratios and pacing we need. Then we write one core message with a clear offer or reason to act, and we structure the script so it can be cut down without falling apart.

On set we shoot for every version at once. That means framing so vertical crops still work, grabbing extra close-ups and product shots for short cuts, and recording lines in a way that lets the 6-second version stand on its own. Whether you're buying TV airtime or running online ads at scale, you get a full set of creative from one production.

01

One message, many lengths

We write the long version and the short versions together, so a :15 or :06 is a real edit with a clear point, not a leftover.

02

Hooks for skippable placements

Online and social cuts open with the strongest moment or claim, because the viewer decides in seconds whether to keep watching.

03

Framed for every ratio

We compose shots with vertical and square crops in mind, so your 9:16 social ads don't lose the product or the person.

04

Delivered to spec

We follow the technical specs your station, streaming platform or ad account asks for, so files don't bounce back at upload.

  1. 01

    Media and message brief

We map every placement, length and spec, then lock the single message and call to action the commercial needs to land.

  2. 02

    Script and cutdown plan

We write the main spot and plan each shorter version scene by scene before we schedule the shoot.

  3. 03

    Production day

We film the story plus the extra angles, product shots and alternate lines each cutdown depends on.

  4. 04

    Edit, versions and delivery

We cut the hero edit first, get your approval, then build and export every length and ratio to spec.

FAQ

Questions we get a lot

What's the difference between a brand film and a commercial?

A brand film is usually longer and tells the story of who you are and why you exist. It lives on your website, in sales decks and at the top of a YouTube channel. A commercial is shorter and built around one offer or action. We often shoot both in the same production, because the footage overlaps.

Can you make spots for broadcast TV and streaming?

Yes. We deliver files to the technical specs your station, streaming service or media buyer provides. Send us those specs early, ideally before the script is final, because some placements have rules about length, loudness and safe areas for text.

How many versions do we get?

That depends on your media plan, and we agree on it in the brief. A typical set includes a main spot, one or two shorter edits and vertical social cuts. Planning versions up front costs far less than trying to squeeze them out of footage that wasn't shot for them.

Do we need actors?

Not always. Real staff and customers can work very well, especially for smaller businesses, and we'll coach them through it. For scripted scenes or lines that need precise delivery, hired talent is usually worth it. We'll recommend what fits the concept and budget.
