Most HubSpot customers will turn on the new AI agents, get mediocre results, and blame the AI. The real problem will be their CRM.
That's our read on HubSpot's big fall launch. The agents are impressive. But HubSpot itself is basically telling you, in its own announcement, that they only perform when the data underneath is good.
What HubSpot launched at UNBOUND
HubSpot renamed its annual INBOUND conference to UNBOUND, held in Boston September 16 to 18, 2026. Its Fall 2026 Spotlight rolled out a long list of AI features. The ones that matter most for marketing and sales automation:
- Nurture Agent: writes each email in a nurture flow for the specific contact, using CRM and engagement data. Public beta, per the Spotlight page.
- Campaign Agent: turns a goal into a campaign plan with channels, messages and assets. Public beta.
- Prospecting Agent: watches target accounts for buying signals (HubSpot says 40+), scores them against your ideal customer profile, builds the buying group and drafts outreach. Public beta.
- Deal Progression: pulls updates from emails, calls and meetings, drafts follow-ups and updates CRM fields for one-click approval. Public beta.
- Native WhatsApp marketing: campaigns with templates, audience sends and journeys. Public beta.
- Context Home: new. It gives you a score for how complete your business context is and shows the gaps.
- Self-updating CRM: captures calls, emails and meetings automatically so reps don't log them by hand.
HubSpot didn't announce pricing changes at the Spotlight, according to a recap from Hacking Demand. Agent usage runs on HubSpot's credit system.
The number that should change your priorities
Here's the line we keep coming back to. HubSpot says businesses using AI with high-quality context create 3.6x more MQLs, win 3.2x more deals and close over 2x more tickets, compared with Professional and Enterprise customers not using AI. On the Spotlight page it also claims 7.6x more marketing email replies for customers using AI with high-quality context.
These are HubSpot's own customer averages, so treat them as directional, not a promise. But look at the phrase that shows up again and again: high-quality context. That's HubSpot telling you where the results come from. Not the agent. The data the agent reads.
Think about what a Nurture Agent does with a contact record that has no industry, no lifecycle stage, a job title of "Mr." and a last activity from 2023. It writes a generic email. Probably a confident, well-formatted generic email. Which is worse than no email, because it burns the contact's attention and your sender reputation.
Now flip it. A record with a clean industry field, the pages they visited, the webinar they attended and the deal stage their company is in. Same agent, completely different email. That gap is where your pipeline lives.
Our opinion: Context Home is the most useful thing HubSpot shipped this fall, and it's the least exciting. Start there.
Your pre-agent cleanup plan
Before you switch on any of these betas, do this:
- Open Context Home and get your score. Write it down. That's your baseline. Fix the gaps it flags before anything else.
- Audit your five most important contact properties. Usually lifecycle stage, lead status, industry, company size and owner. Run a report on how many contacts have each one blank. If it's more than a quarter, fix that first.
- Kill the junk. Merge duplicates, delete obvious fakes from form spam, and archive contacts with no email activity in two years. Agents shouldn't be reading them.
- Write down your ICP in plain words. The Prospecting Agent scores accounts against your ideal customer profile. If yours lives only in a sales manager's head, the agent can't use it.
- Pilot one agent on one segment. Turn on the Nurture Agent for a single nurture flow, like webinar no-shows. Compare reply and meeting rates against your old flow for 30 days.
- Keep a human on approval. Use the one-click approval in Deal Progression rather than letting it write to the CRM unchecked, at least until you trust it.
About the WhatsApp piece
Native WhatsApp marketing in HubSpot is a big deal for businesses selling in Latin America. Just remember Meta is moving WhatsApp marketing sends to its Marketing Messages API by October 2027. Ask HubSpot how its beta handles that before you build big journeys on it.
The takeaway: the agents are new, but the rule is old. Garbage in, garbage out, just faster.
